Imagine having no place to go at the end of the day. No place to come to a rest, eat a nutritious meal, and get a good night’s sleep. Consider the ramifications to your physical and emotional well-being if you could not process your day, plan for the next, or simply center; exhale.

A home is a base point, a foundation to living. It affords the ability to cook healthy meals, bathe, sleep.

Sadly, many people share this town with us who are lacking this simple necessity. The core of The Stable Foundation’s mission is the determination that it is unacceptable for us, as members of the human family, to allow our brothers and sisters and their children to live this way.

Now imagine a community that dedicates its collective heart, body and soul to helping the least among us.

Would it be too much to ask for a 100 unit apartment complex to donate one of those units, to perpetually keep the doors open, housing one underprivileged family at a time? What about a church sponsoring a family to help pay deposits and subsidize rent? Why not have volunteers build a duplex that exists solely to house those who have none?

It is The Stable Foundation’s mission to orchestrate these types of solutions. By working with property management companies and individual landlords as well as purchasing property through funds donated, we plan to develop what we call a “home bank”.

When agencies such as the Interfaith Hospitality Network or Athens Area Homeless Shelter have a client in need, we plan to have a home ready. We will place people in homes by providing them the best match from our housing stock and arrange a personalized lease agreement based on their level of need. Gradually, as the referring agency continues the case management (credit counseling, drug and alcohol counseling etc.) these families and individuals can be placed in more permanent housing solutions and space will be freed for the next in need.

True community gives and receives in kind. In this way we all are able to live fully and love wholly. Do you want to be a fully aware member of this human family? We could use you.
